We could try, Anchorage, Alaska. Sure, it's cold, but it'll teach those people who think that heat is intolerable...

We should build a flying island that travels around the world as the world capital. It would prevent geographic favoritism, and it would just be so cool.

Besides the impossible realism with today’s tech,

Ooh. Look what happened last time we built a flying island as a large cultural center.

Different ones for continents:
North America: Iditarod, Alaska
South America: Armero, Colombia
Europe: Belchite, Spain or Prypiat, Ukraine
Asia: Kantubek, Uzbekistan or Bokor Hill Station, Cambodia
Australia: Cossack, Western Australia
Africa: Elizabeth Bay, Namibia
Antarctica: Deception Island
Zeelandia: Denniston, New Zealand

See if you can find what they have in common. :)

I vote that we do what Shadowrun did and put the Corporate Court on a space station. Maybe even a moonbase.

I'm thinking New York City, Tokyo, Guangzhou, New Delhi, Moscow, or Istanbul would be best. They're easily recognizable and already large hubs of business, population, etc. in their native countries.

The moon would be terrible. The low gravity, dangerous moon dust, and lack of a magnetic field make it horrible as a place of permanent residence. The best the moon could ever do is serve as a shipyard and refueling station. An orbiting space station is slightly better, but you still couldn't have an actual city on it.

Hong Kong.

It's within 5,000km from half the world population, is a very populous urban area and a major economic/financial centre, has a significant English-speaking population, and is nestled right in the middle of multiple rapidly-rising future world powers.

I'd say Hong Kong is an excellent choice.

Seems to be a lot of focus in the Anglosphere countries among the previous comments: New York, London, Toronto, Sydney.

New York is a fairly large political centre already, and to a lesser extent so is London. They have the advantage of being highly established, and thus having excellent soft connections to a lot of other world centres. They're fairly big cities too, although they're still well behind Shanghai or Tokyo. I can see one of those two happening, especially in the near future due to political momentum, but I'd still say they're suboptimal choices now and will only get worse as time goes on.

Toronto is a joke, and so is Sydney/Canberra. I have nothing more to say there.

The importance of Istanbul is grossly overrated, I feel. Mediterranean-Black Sea connectivity isn't that vital anymore. I'd rate it at par with Toronto and maybe a little better than Sydney.

Lagos is decent, and both it and the region has great growth potential. It has the disadvantage of being currently quite irrelevant, despite all its potential, and the region that it's in is isolated from other world centres by vast stretches of underdeveloped terrain (the Atlantic, the Saharas, and the Congo Basin).

As for Jerusalem or any one of those Middle Eastern cities... why? I can't think of any reason why that would be advantageous.

Amsterdam, Vienna, Berlin, or pretty much any other European city other than the big 3 London/Paris/Moscow is already a second-rate city at best and will only get worse.

Tokyo I feel is much in the same boat as New York or London. It looks good now, but as time goes on... also, not as many great adjacencies as Hong Kong sports.

Nah, I think when Disney launches their hostile takeover of Google and creates the world-owning megaconglomerate, they'll just rule from an expanded Disney World.

Dhaka. It's situated on a major river, it's in a developing nation, has natural protection, natural center of trade, and it's north of the equator.
