I'd say New York, London, Tokyo, or Beijing. An idea I had for a sci-fi novel has Shanghai as the capital, due to its sheer size and its historical, cultural, and economic significance.

Nah, you've all got it wrong (although whoever said the Moon or Mars were close).

The best city for a world capital is Port-aux-Francais, in the Kergulen Islands, in the south Indian Ocean!

Why? Because it's so isolated, and so remote, and so cold, that hardly anyone would want to go there. So fewer politicians would get involved in a world government, and we'd have less corruption and fewer infringements on our personal freedom.

So vive Port-aux-Francais!

I would say the best city is Istanbul. Easy access to three continents through sea and two through land. It’s also naturally protected which eases defenses.

If you want a truly isolated island settlement, go for Tristan da Cunha. The people there are so chill you wouldn't have to worry about corruption, though admittedly I don't know how well they'd run the world. Better than the people we've got, perhaps.

Or if you don't mind the place being uninhabited, you could set up shop on Bouvet Island, the world's most isolated piece of land. It's like 90% glacier, has a volcano, and gets horrible storms most of the year, so it meets your 'hardly anyone would want to go there' requirement.

Tristan might be cool except for having an active volcano that forced everyone to evacuate back in 1961. If it erupted again, it might wipe everyone out. Although, on second thought, maybe that's not a disadvantage after all . . . .

I would be worried about Bouvet Island, because it's close enough to Antarctica that it might make it easier to violate the Antarctic Treaty.

But any of those three might be OK!

We have very strange priorities for a world capital.

I can't wait to see what ideas for laws and such we come up with.

The first law I'd come up with is to review all laws, get rid of most of them, and put a time limit on keeping the ones that aren't repealed outright :D

This works. They'd put a taboo on the word "nation" and whenever anyone says it NWO wizards would apparate in singing "it means nothing to me, it means nothing to meeee, oh Vienna - Vienna - Vienna" before wiping the concept from the mind of the guilty party.

Stellar Colonies wrote:But realistically, housing everything for a planetary government in a single city probably isn't a great idea (Since you'd have all of your eggs in one basket, and people might not take kindly to the authority of a government continents away).

If we do get a world government, it would probably be more decentralized than most existing nations and have multiple centers of power.

And this idea has made me start to think (horrible thought, I know).

Thus, I present to you, my plan for the New World Order, otherwise known as a federation of federations of federations.

Image

(Sorry for the small text, but I wanted it to be uniform, and it didn't fit for some countries, so meh.)

This idea shall create a World Federation (or maybe even a Confederacy) of 20 nations, which are coincidentally equal populations, which are also federations.

Why 20, you may ask? Eh... Insert a good reason, and say it's that.

The 20 countries will share some similarities of convenience (for example, much of the Middle Eastern union either shares a language or a religion ((with Greece being a lovely awkward little outlier)) and many states have similar/the same languages, like the Central American League, the NA-E League, the Slavic League and even to a certain extent the South American league).

This idea was made to make the least hardship for the world as it adapts to this new world, while still making 20 equally representative countries.

These 20 countries (totaling approximately 350,000,000 people each) will be further divided into 100 federal states each (with around 3,500,000 people each). And then, those 2,000 states will be divided into even smaller divisions, either by city or local area. Obviously the names would be changed to add a certain amount of Federal 'pride'.

So yeah... This would obviously be completely unfeasible in a real world... Which is why I am suddenly drawn to making some sort of project around this. *sigh* I have too many projects already. Do I need another? Anyone else as interested in this as me, or is this just me?

It doesn't really matter what it's called as long as it's initials spell NWO in order to trigger Alex Jones. Also it's major arterial roads have to form a clear shape that is both spoopy and ridiculous.
