Best City for a World Capital

Postby Pepsi Co » Sun Mar 25, 2018 9:06 am

When the governments of the world all finally collapse and corporations take their place and eventually unify into a ruling coalition, what city would probably be chosen as the world capital for the CEO to reside?

I'm thinking New York city because of it (as far as I know) is the city with the greatest GDP and historical has represented many of the world's cultures. Admittedly I have no idea what other criteria to consider or what other cities qualify, so where do you think it should be?

Well they're probably going to all be equally shitty as one so why not a giant space laser?

Istanbul has always been a great place for a capital.

Build a city on the moon and have it there. You get a great view.

For the eastern Mediterranean maybe, but probably not the best for anywhere else.

It's either gonna be New York City and London if it's gonna happen.

Jerusalem for religious people

New York because it is already the hq for the UN

Bern because neutrality

City of London for gdp concentration

Tokyo for total gdp

I am sure some asian, Africa, or South American cities could house it but I don't know which.

No; that's Tokyo. New York City is second

It's not that hard to look these things up.

and historical has represented many of the world's cultures

This is more subjective. Many of us would cast doubt on whether a city founded as recently as 1624(ish) counts as 'historical', but if multiculturalism is your primary metric, then Jersey City is apparently the most ethnically diverse city in the US. That's still part of the greater New York metropolitan region, true, but it's not part of New York City or New York State. And when it comes to multiculturalism generally, plenty of other major international cities - notably London, Sydney, and Toronto - would also put in a strong claim.

So no, I don't think New York has a particularly strong claim on the criteria provided. Its status as the existing headquarters of the UN likely gives it a stronger claim than inaccurate claims about its GDP and subjective claims about its historical status as a city of immigrants.

El Dorado, Asgard, or Iram of the Pillars would have been much better choices.

Exactly. A new, landmass spanning megacity. Just the thing for the capital of Earth.

Some construction required.

New York City.

Places like London or Tokyo could also be awesome capitals. I picked NYC because it houses the United Nations, cultures from all around the world, and some of the most powerful institutions in finance/fashion/cinema.

Quito, Ecuador claims to be the Ciudad Mitad del Mundo, city that sits at the Equitorial center of the world

Accra, Ghana is the closest capital city to the 00 coordinates (intersect of longitude and lattitude)
but of course Longitude is centered on Greenwich thus

Greater London includes Greenwich and thats the center of all Timezones and Maps of the world

So my vote is for Opoa in Raiatea

Either Jerusalem or Rome as some consider them the jewels of the world. Rome mainly cause it was the capital of the Roman Empire, the single greatest empire the world has ever had.

Geneva or Zürich. Beautiful cities in a beautiful country with peace and neutrality, as well as nice cultures surrounding them.

The problem with London (both in terms of world capital status, and more generally), is the bit of land that surrounds it. The way the UK is run these days, for London to really make world capital status, it would have to take control of its administration and tax revenue.

London could be a good choice. It's position on a well-developed island nation makes it easier to defend if the world state ever began to fall apart.

Perhaps a good option would be to build a new, self-sustaining city at the South Pole or in central Greenland. Such a capital wouldn't have any direct ties to a specific nation or culture, and thus would be more neutral in that respect. It would also likely be easily defended given the difficulties of maintaining an armed campaign in such a region.

Croatia makes for a good place for a capital. Plenty of prisons, rampant corruption, you can jail whoever you want, etc.
So you decide to open it anyway? What the heck, man?
