If the city government of New Orleans REQUIRED this price disparity, it would be illegal, if it is a voluntary private transaction, admittedly one using guilt as a means to an end (coercion), it's in a legal gray area but would probably get laughed out of court.

A fairer experiment would have been to ask wealthier people to pay more instead of asking people of a certain race, but since you can't just ask everyone's income at the door that isn't really possible. If it were, I'd see that as a good, voluntary way to demonstrate wealth gaps in a community. I would never want that to be a mandatory policy, of course, and ideally the extra money from the experiment would go to a charity, perhaps to the poorer people in the community.

That isn't a solution to this, of course, as I've already mentioned the problem with it. But basing the experiment off of race alone is misguided and does more to ignite controversy and division than to bring attention to the real problem.

What if somebody was white and poor? This man shouldn't look down on somebody for not paying the inflated price (even though I get that it was just meant as a social experiment), because although the problem is far worse in the black community (according to the article) their are also white people who are struggling with hunter all over the world.
