Yeah. Market socialism is like a bootleg version. And people call me a class traitor!

With adequate market controls, and worker ownership of the MoP, there is no inherent contradiction between the market and socialism. None of the problems of the Soviet economy, and none of the problems of the American one.

I never thought an academic, of all people would denounce an entire field of study. I’ll be honest, capitalism seems alright once you get rid of your ethics and morality... it seems to at least work for the bourgeoisie.

I'm not capitalist but I don't go out of my way to avoid capitalist teachings... It's always better to understand the other side.

Indeed. And I managed to pass my high school econ class without compromising my openly socialist principles. I honestly fail to see how one cannot do the same in a college course.

I knew it was hostile, but not that hostile. I hear a lot of capitalists say that socialism restricts personal freedom, and that the government intervenes in peoples lives. Given what I know about history, I can’t say they are entirely wrong... if I can at least be convinced capitalism is worse... I’m happy.

If you live in the US and haven't seen the restrictions of personal freedom and government interference in people's lives, you haven't been looking hard enough.

The right and far right use it to apply to literally anyone further left than Hillary Clinton. And while nobody unironically self-identifies as one, its quite clear among the targets of the label who it is referring to.

I've been called an SJW before, yet you don't think I am one. It's almost like SJW has no universal definition, thereby making it a meaningless snarl word.

Since capitalism was a product of the French Revolution, almost all traditionalists are opposed to it in favor of a guild system.

As much as I like Sartre's works, waxing about the meaningless of existence is a luxury for those who have not had to experience real suffering.

Satre was drafted into the French army and spent 9 months in a german POW camp, returning to a shortage-stricken Paris. It certainly wasn't the worst thing to ever happen to anyone during the war, it certainly was luxury at the time, but I would not myself prefer to live through that sort of business.

In any case, if he was in a position to write, it's no great exertion simply to read. I mean, could be worse, you could be reading Hegel.

"Huis Clos" is his only work I appreciated, and only out of the entertainment value rather than the underlying message.
Nonetheless, I respect him for having found God a couple months before his death and abjuring his philosophy.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Capitalism long predates the French revolution, if anything I say it's the fault of the Dutch.
almost all traditionalists are opposed to it in favor of a guild system.

Traditionalists only make token criticism of capitalism - they mostly oppose consumerism and social liberalism that goes hand in hand with the free market. In actuality they are just fine with the bourgeois owning and accumulating the means of production - as long as they aren't degeneratesTM
