With adequate market controls, and worker ownership of the MoP, there is no inherent contradiction between the market and socialism. None of the problems of the Soviet economy, and none of the problems of the American one.

I knew it was hostile, but not that hostile. I hear a lot of capitalists say that socialism restricts personal freedom, and that the government intervenes in peoples lives. Given what I know about history, I can’t say they are entirely wrong... if I can at least be convinced capitalism is worse... I’m happy.

If you live in the US and haven't seen the restrictions of personal freedom and government interference in people's lives, you haven't been looking hard enough.

Because it gets applied to literally any emotional or just strong reaction involving politics, justified or not.

Satre was drafted into the French army and spent 9 months in a german POW camp, returning to a shortage-stricken Paris. It certainly wasn't the worst thing to ever happen to anyone during the war, it certainly was luxury at the time, but I would not myself prefer to live through that sort of business.
