Culture is just a term for the total way of life in a society, including the economy. My point was that slavery represented the beginning of the exploitation of workers in what became the U.S., not that slavery was practiced universally.

They are very different and yet frequently confused with one another. Postmodernism is the questioning of Enlightenment rationalism. Poststructuralism is a critique of structural linguistics. Now, it would take a long time to explain structural linguistics, and I am getting ready for bed.

The American slave trade started when large scale farming became viable. Then an extremely cheap labor force was needed.
And I don't think it would have taken that long for large scale farms to start up in the southern colonies.
In fact, small amounts of slaves were brought to the colonies very early on.

It may not be a good definition for the beginning of the US; however, time-wise, it checks out.

I'm not a fan of the political compass. It's really biased (just look at the election plots, they move every party 3 points northeast) and a lot of its questions are weird and misleading. I think that 8values is the best of them. Spekr is quite biased, but its bias is mainly in the phrasing of the question like, "people should be prosecuted for excercising their right to self-defense," and in the blurb on the results like "You're so and so, support not enough property rights and not enough civil liberties," rather than in the scoring.

According to certain political tests, I have both been centre-right and centre-left, but sometimes I have been incredibly close to the center of the compass. I must say I am a strong supporter of social democracy, but I think we need the market to prove the individual`s dreams and skills
