Punk, hard rock, classic, and political shit.

Punk is absolute garbage. Johnny Rotten only started making good music after he formed PiL.

Some rap is absolute shit, like Gucci Gang. But others, like Eminem, and the rap that tells a story, are good. I really like NWA and other rap groups, because while people slap their raps as 'shit', I think it tells a good story.

I have very specific music tastes and generally don't like rap, but I love White & Nerdy.

I like Hamilton, but I see where many leftists are coming from when they reject it. In purely technical terms, it's a fantastic musical... but in terms of what it does with American history... it's kind of peak contemporary liberalism.

Guys, guys, come on... regardless of our feelings towards rap and country, I think we can all come together in agreement over the fact that Andrew Lloyd Webber is shit.

I agree. Hamilton is by no means bad music to listen to, but the actual way in which the story is told is so incredibly-cringe inducing.

It's very, very generous towards the Founding Fathers and their ideals. And while the diversity of its cast is awesome... it also kind of serves to gloss over the real historical implications of those characters and their ideals.

The issues with the Founding Fathers was not their ideals - it was America's (and their) wholesale willingness to just ignore them whenever it was convenient. America, if it lived up to its ideals, would be a really great place, tbh.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

My take on Hamilton is that it's quite fun. It's a good musical, but it's politics are... well... taking liberties.

How do you know that? I lived in the South for 17 years (though I am a native of NYC). I had no problems relating with Southerners, but I still dislike country music. On the other hand, I lived in Southern Appalachia for 4 years, and I love Appalachian folk music. To automatically equate a person's musical tastes with latent racism and classism is extremely inappropriate.

To be fair, it's kind of amazing how often stuffy conservative types blame everything wrong in the black American community on "rap culture".

If you subscribe to the idea that disliking something primarily made by people from a certain racial and socioeconomic background is inherently classist and racist, then yes.
