Well, I certainly understand the notion. Life is hell for many people, and given the existence of suicide, it is certainly the case that some feel that life is not worth living. That said, I still disagree with it. Life may not be great, we can always work to make it better.

Our original purpose is to reproduce, that's the first job of any species. Now if a member of that species cannot reproduce with a Mate, then they can find another way to help their species as a Whole.

So if a fertile person chooses not to have a kid, then are they objectively a failure?

They may not want to their original biological purpose but they can find other ways to help their species in other ways.

If it's of any comfort, death is inevitable. The assumed positive of death (no more suffering) will happen regardless. So you might as well gamble with the possibility of happiness now, because pleasure is pleasure, and pain (admittedly like pleasure), ends when you die.
