So, what if Mike Pence became POTUS?

Wouldn't that be actually still worse? This option is not much widely debated, as I see, which is surprising. If you manage to kick Trump out, will he be replaced by something better?

Remember when the Republicans were trying to repeal the ACA? Well, some polls were done with Republicans. The poll found that a large plurality of Republicans wanted congress to leave the Affordable Care Act alone, however almost all of the respondents wanted Obamacare to be repealed. Hell, I know people who said as much in real life. My head hurt after that.

I think so. At least he'd be a President not ruling by tantrum. He'd be bad, no doubt, but he'd just be your average shitty President, instead of fuckin' Trump.

In the unlikely event that Trump gets impeached, the Republican party would effectively be neutered from doing anything major. Public opinion against them would be at an all time low, and their efforts would need to be in rebuilding themselves.

I'm not sure if it counts as selling out. I think Trump just realised how cheap their morals already were and knew they didn't really care. Selling out implies they had standards to begin with and I'm unsure if they deserve that much credit.

It has been debated. Frequently. And it remains stupid.

Rule of law matters. The institutions matter. If we ignore these things because the next in line is not ideal we've chucked that over for nothing more than half assed concern trolling. Fuck that bullshit.

Pence will be a president, probably a bad one. But still just a president. With an agenda that will still need support of the legislative body. But he won't be one that runs ripshod over our institutions or flagrantly uses the office to enrich himself.

I'm so sick of Trump being passed off as the least worst option to rationalize letting his bullshit continue. He is the worst option. If you supported him, if you wrung your hands with your vague concerns about an objectively qualified candidate who understood the office and the process fucking own your goddamn mistake. Enough of this trying to pretend this is anything other than a fucking disaster and if and when evidence of his wrongdoing is presented we should take action because these things fucking matter. Vote Pence the fuck out in 2020 but don't excuse a robber baron president by pretending again that he's the worst best option.
