That's what I think will set him off.
I think he doesn't want to start shit with the people holding the microphones while the show is going on, because they can respond and get standing ovations while he's just sitting in his suite in Mar-A-Lago with half a dozen empty Diet Coke bottles strewn around him.On the other hand, because the ratings were down for the more political awards last year, they might tone it down. If they tone it down, i think he'll ignore it.
I don't think any of the people who'll be making acceptance speeches care about the ratings, so they'll be as political as they want. And besides, art is political.

Yes. Yes it is. He is an embarrassment to the institution of the presidency and to the United States as a whole. I'm not sure if you realize this, but literally everyone who didn't vote for him - and, I'm afraid, much of the rest of the world - are laughing at him in an odd combination of wondering and fearing what this bull-in-a-china-closet will smash next.

He wouldn't have won if he wasn't against the embodiment of everything people hate about "the establishment". And if that embodiment weren't simultaneously overconfident and incompetent.

Where in that post did I say a single thing about Hillary Clinton? And yet you are arguing about her - a woman who is not President. If that is the only defense you can possibly scratch up for Donald Trump, you really ought to quit.

That's how he got elected, so it's relevant. They both were against the one person they could have won against. I'm sorry that you're still salty over the election :^)

He may not have a tv camera on him, but he will have his phone and his Twitter account. He could live tweet the Oscars for all we know. That might make the news. Of course it'll be for his thin skin and big ego rather than actual policy making...
To your other point, a slight correction: they'll be as progressive as they want.

Whatever you want to call it, people who win awards are going to say whatever they want until they go over their time and get played off. People who get interviewed on the red carpet are going to say whatever they want. If they want to make a political statement, they won't care about what that might do to the ratings.

They will care if people stop watching their shows and movies and all that money that Hollywood makes will start to drain because of it. No one will want to spend money on them anymore the longer this continues.

Kid, I think you're very confused.
It's the same thing we saw and are seeing with Brexit. Any criticism of how it's handled is met with a "shut up and accept the result" or "why can't you just accept democracy".

And if they don't expect even harsher ratings drops than last year. And you can bet your money that I won't watch it, I've got better shit to do than see a bunch of stuck-up elitist celebrities try to be funny and woke by bashing the president. Nothing new there at all.
