The point is that there are far easier, much cheaper, much less conspicuous ways of killing people. Gun? They're everywhere. Bomb? Less so, but not hard to do. Nerve agent? So what intelligence service you work for, bro?

Just an aside: why the fuck do gov't agents use nerve agents to kill people like this? It's not like any dipshit can make them in their garage; they're gonna lead back to some sort of nation somewhere? Aren't they supposed to be covert with this shit?

They want people to know that it was them. It's a warning.

Putin and his cronies are arrogant, ignorant, stubborn macho assholes who couldn't care less if the world burns as long as their bunkers are stocked with prostitutes, vodka, and veal to last them until they die of old age, which is, what, 30, 40 years? The Russian populace is sufficiently brainwashed by the Putin cult of personality and by paranoic cynicism that they would see the nuclear war as justified regardless of how ridiculous the real reason is, and even more so on Russia acting like aggressive, authoritarian assholes on the world stage. That's ignoring the desperation they're going to feel when the war of attrition between the U.S., the European Union and it's allies (if not the entirety of NATO and the UN) goes down to the wire.
For Trump to feel the need to fight with his ex-boyfriend is the most dangerous thing he's done so far.

Let's not.
Instead of playing the "Look my dick is bigger than yours" game with Russia, we should play the "So You Think You Can Intrigue?" with Russia.
I realize that that's basically Cold Ward 2.0, but last time I checked, horrible as it was, it didn't end with us being scorched by nuclear hellfire.

We imposed new sanctions on Russian oligarchs for that. It was the one thing Congress has agreed on since Trump was elected. The problem of course, is that Trump has chosen not to enforce them. There is supposedly legislation in the pipeline which would remove Trump from the equation so that Congress can enforce these sanctions instead.
We don't need to storm goddamned embassies. We need to enforce laws which have already been passed.

That is a gross misunderstanding of the situation. The only ones not enforced were regarding weapons sales to allies because the Obama administration waited 6 years and still wouldn't approve AA sales. That's a really bad meme and you should feel bad. His admin made up for it by selling real weapons to Ukraine and giving Putin's green men the slap in Syria.
Sanctions haven't stopped the Russians or made any real points. The Germans won't do real ones even when their man Obama was in. Spare us that garbage.
Edit: I'm not saying playing games with embassies is good mind you just that you are wrong in your nonsense about enforcing the law

Mind you, I was not making any commentary on the effectiveness of the sanctions. San Lumen seemed to be asserting that storming embassies was warranted because the US has taken no other action against Russia. The sanctions were an attempt at action, albeit an attempt blocked by Trump.

Actually, I've read native Russians disagreeing that there's a cult of personality (though I haven't read up on the statistics on the matter, as I really don't care that much). Many Russians are just ambivalent to Putin and consider him the lesser evil when compared to the Communist Party, and that's why he is considered okay despite his corruption. And other politicians are either bootlickers for him or barred from actually having a chance in the fake elections, so it's not like there are any good alternatives.
