Yes, a nation steeped in such conservative "socialist values" that the government literally tried installing a web nanny on all new computers a few years ago to specifically filter out pornography and who respects elders and and deceased ancestors to the point of veneration would have a rich tradition of hiring prostitutes at the funerals of their departed. I honestly feel like many people have absolutely no idea how conservative Chinese society is. It's only in recent years, with the steady westernization of China that we've seen such absurd practices like this spread. Consumerism and materialism is the problem here, not "traditional Chinese society." For fuck's sake, do you think all Chinese people have no shame?
