Cali is only worth it in video game form.

For when you want to be a swood guy.

Heh.

But srsly, I wouldn't mind visiting Cali.

It has some good theme parks and it sounds like it has lovely weather.

Why are you confusing the people who elected Weiner as their representative, with the rest of us?

The reason there is a housing shortage is building luxary housing for rich people. If you stopped building it there would not be a shortage. This isn't rocket science.

You do know that in some places of California, the land value is greater than the building costs, right? If I own land, (well I do, but imagine it's a hypo,) why would I sell my land for less than the market value, or build housing there, if I knew it was going to be rent controlled? The only way that rent control can work, is if the Government subsidizes it, hey - what's the debt?

There's a lot more to Cali than theme parks, but that's usually the first place everyone goes. We also have this: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions ... ornia.html

And this: http://www.visitcalifornia.com/feature/ ... california

And in Cali, you can also surf and ski in a single day. Or watch any professional sports team you want. We have everything, except sanity in the State Government :P

Pointless comment is pointless.

Risottia's point probably hits it on the head. San Fran is probably too expensive for most people. Not to mention Hepatitis A has basically spread all over the state and has made people fearful. But sure, answer irrationality with irrationality. That always solves the problem.

Hepatitis doesn't spread that quickly, and most of us are sane enough to get tested, or at least use condoms before getting in on. Not sure what they do in Sacramento (the Sac) though.

On the fun side, I remember when NorCal was trying to secede from SoCal.

NorCal: Fuck you SoCal, we're leaving!
SoCal: Fine, take the Sac with you!
NorCal: Fuck! Erm, can we get along?

LOL!

I think that the only legit independence movements in the US, (the ones that have popular support) are those spearheaded by the Native Americans.

Anyway, housing market is too expensive and San Fran is losing people.

With all the selling, prices will fall and people will move back.

Hating California is a past time with some people. Some just don’t like sunshine and beaches or something and some are so ideologically bent that if they accept a functional California it destroys their world view. So there’s some cat right now hitting “quote” so he can do those error arrows on “functional California”. It’s cool we’ll just be over here being awesome and the rest will catch up to us eventually.

Exactly. Jealousy does motivate it.

Part of the problem is there is major housing shortage in the bay area. Apple and google are building large campuses and the housing market has responded.....

Ehhh, rent control is a very mixed bag. I would rather have less strict zoning laws to encourage cheaper, more affordable housing. And if San Fran is too expensive, then there's always Oakland. *Shrugs*.

Then create more public housing, in more neighbourhoods, and require public housing to make their revenue and expenditures public so we can see just how much it costs to maintain housing in these neighbourhoods and, in turn, whether or not the private sector is bullshitting us.

Another pointless comment is pointless. "Durr hurr you hate us cause you ain't us". I could say the same about Louisiana and you could call us a bunch of backwards, mudbug-eating, alligator-riding hicks. Still doesn't add to the conversation. But sure, make your daily smug comment because it makes you feel good or whatever. You have your state, others have theirs, and nobody is obligated to like your state either.
