You must: Have a been permanent residence for 5 years (3 if you have a citizen spouse) and stay here continuously for 30 months after filing specific forms (Namely the N-400), be 18 or over (Some methods have lower requirements, like military naturalization), be fluent and literate in English, fill out several forms (N-400 is the most important as it's the main citizenship application form, but you also need to get other things like health info and biometrics) and pay several fines and bills, take a test showing that you understand US history and government/culture, have interviews with people at USCIS and hope they approve you, and take an oath of allegiance.

Keep in mind that getting permanent residence (Green card) is a whole other issue entirely and requires a crap ton of money, work, and pure luck.

I am not too sure about the US but in the UK we had similar propaganda about how British people are "lazy" and deserve to lose their jobs to migrants which isn't true. They are very lazy people mostly millennials it seems in the country but also very hard working people that work hard in harsh conditions for long hours such as steel mills and the same thing applies to immigrants they aren't all hard working as the media portrays some are very lazy and live off welfare while others work very hard for their families
