I think they're created naturally. Probably was someone that captured the popular imagination a la the Beatles or MLK and people just never stopped talking about them.

If you're not from Mass, and you don't know Foxboro because it's where the Pats play, there's no reason you'd know where it is. It's not important for anything else besides the Pats playing there.
