Chelsea Manning, the former US intelligence analyst who was jailed for leaking classified documents, is seeking the Democratic Party nomination to run for the US senate in Maryland.

Manning will be challenging 74-year-old incumbent Senator Cardin for the Democratic nomination.

Mr Cardin has held the Maryland seat since 2007, and is favourite to retain the seat for a third term in the heavily-Democratic state.

So this is a thing that's happening. What say you NSG, good thing? Bad thing?

Please try to keeping things polite. Manning is a she and she's served her punishment for her crime.

The smear campaign will be brutal, and no doubt there will be an unhealthy sprinkle of transphobia.

The shit's she known shows integrity regardless of whether you approve or disapprove of it. That kinda puts her up for the list celebrity candidates/suggestions if not at the top in my eyes.

I will go with "no".

I can take that she is a "she", and that she served her time, but a leaker running for government is not who I would vote for.

No political experience, if Trump is a bad idea for that reason then Manning is for the same reason.

Wait, so what you be saying is, you can be charged and convicted of Violating the Espionage Act, stealing government property, violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, and multiple counts of disobeying orders and you can still run for the senate but a felony marijuana possetion charge means you can't vote at all for any elected office?

It's still messed up. Like what kind of sane person is going to vote for someone who is literally a convicted traitor?

Does it even matter? What kind of psychotic political party endorses someone convicted of spying as a political candidate?
