I think he clearly has plenty of fortitude if he's willing to say this. More fortitude than the rest of the GOP put together.

Really? It's ideological fortitude for a conservative GOP president to, in the face of public outrage after a shooting, change tack and embrace a distinctly Democratic-seeming position? You're intentionally changing what I said- maybe it takes some sort of fortitude to be able to say those things to his own party (frankly, I suspect he was just too stupid to realize it might piss them off that he doesn't agree with them all of a sudden), but it displays very little fortitude in his beliefs on gun control, as it's literally been just days since he was talking about arming teachers and agreeing that gun control of any type isn't the solution.

I don't trust him and I strongly dislike him, but so far I like his policy. Unfortunately he has been vile, immature and immoral.

My issue is the part where you said he is a paleocon- no, he isn't. He may be aligned with paleocons (or maybe just you) at this particular moment in time, but don't make the mistake of ascribing any serious political philosophy or awareness to him beyond the incoherent jumble of phobias and obsessions that he's been carrying around his entire life.

Yeah, but given your lack of concern for stuff like foreign aid or welfare or medical insurance programs, you only care about moral purpose insofar as it allows you to judge people and deem them worthy of being condemned to unpleasant fates, so I don't think anyone gives a rat's ass. The rest of your "moral purpose" (all the sex stuff or whatever) has been dead or dying for years (thank God), Trump isn't somehow starting it.

A lot of United States "foreign aid" is buying guns for other countries. Moreover, much of it that isn't that, is giving money to shitty governments and telling them to help their people; yeah, sure, that makes sense.

I strongly support a public medical plan, but the Tenth Amendment means that is 100% a state concern, not a Federal concern. I also support constructive welfare; giving broken families more money than families that stick together, is not constructive welfare. Nixon had the right idea with his Family Assistance Plan.
