Very true. I think attacking the children would be worse, but what he's doing now is still despicable. The real sad thing is if he didn't have such an antagonistic relationship with the FBI, maybe he could push for reforms so dangerous people don't slip through the cracks again. But even if he tried to do that, which I doubt he would anyway, it'll be seen as highly suspect and probably won't be able to accomplish much.

I wonder how long the widened rift between left and right will last in the US. I'm hoping it fades post-Trump, but I've got a nasty feeling that it won't.

Many Republicans and Democrats I know either are embarassed by Trump or they just outright hate him and want him to catch a bullet. There were many Floridians that were extremely disappointed Jeb Bush didn't get the nomination.

I have yet to meet a Trump supporter who didn't almost immediately get shut down for being extremely ignorant about Trump's idiocy.

The only major presence I have seen for Trump supporters are on the Internet, where there's nobody to snap them back to reality, similarly to third-wave feminists, MRAs, and pretty much all of the cliques I have noticed on NSG.

I think there might be a reaction against the rift. But it will require people to reach across the divide - both on the left and the right. If the democratic party retreats into ultra-socialism it just won't happen.

Although if the democrats win both houses in the mid-terms, I think Trump might actually have a fairly decent 3rd and 4th year. He'd be a rogue independent. Now that would bridge the divide, and make so many new divisions that left and right would splinter, and then we could start afresh.
