The only silver lining is that you can imagine the misery McConnell and Ryan are going through, having all of the institutional power without being able to truly do what they always wanted with it. It must be killing them.

I was against the 2013 shutdown by Republicans with an excuse of "healthcare," but I am also against the Democrats here using DACA as a way to hold the budget hostage. The DACA deadline isn't until March, and even Trump said that he would extend it if necessary. The Dems would be sending home 800,000 to 1,000,000 workers home with delayed pay, and some even without pay. A lot of these workers are living paycheck-by-paycheck and that is simply unacceptable of the Dems to do. Also, this would delay the pay of our military and border patrol. You can't treat the people who protect our country that way. The current proposed bill would include funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) which is for millions of poor children. Why would the Dems not want to pass this? To be fair though, Trump did start this DACA morass by ripping it up late last year, then also changing his mind at the immigration meeting last week and using profane language. The shutdown in 2013 helped the economy lose 24 Billion Dollars. Now with an even more robust and booming economy, it will surely cost more if it is around 2 weeks like in 2013. Hopefully, this shutdown won't happen.

Republicans couldn't even get 50 votes for their own partisan bill. Republicans are even mad at Republicans for not letting a vote on DACA. It's all just a mess.

Paul Ryan lies in bed at night, staring at the ceiling. Wishing the Democrats would be in charge again. Hating himself for wishing that. He takes out his phone to try and shop online, anything to distract himself.

If Republicans magnate to stay in power after this year, it ether means the Democratic process has failed, or America has become truly stupid.
