I think the Iran Protests are a new ''Colour revolution''. I'm sceptic.

I think a thread about this is certainly needed, but OP is a bit lacking. Although listing current events is fine, some guidance for conversation would really benefit things.

Possible topics could be what is your opinion on the ultimate outcome? Or how does this round of protests compare to previous? Just a bit more is needed IMO.

I'm not sure it's on the level of the 2008 protests, but it's still worth keeping an eye on. Reports saying that you have protestors chanting We don't want an Islamic Republic which is something incan totally get behind.

I'm skeptical of whether anything will come of this, but things could turn out very interestingly.

Yes, I do realize Persians aren't Arab, but just let me make my jokes.

Idk, it seems more like the Persian uprising, what with the debacle with the Kurds (another persian ethnicity) a few months back.

The protests are still too small to be an uprising or even be given a name.

The Anglo-Persian Oil Company was the cause of the entire debacle, as well as the 1979 hostage crisis. Do we really want to have the entire disaster again?

Some topics for discussion:
1. Is Iran heading for regime change?
2. Will these protests spread to other countries?
3. How should President Trump respond to this situation?

After the 1979 Revolution that saw the fall of the Shah, Persagonia has re-emerged itself from the ashes of Iran. Persagonia has proven herself to be the dominant secular and democratic power in the Middle East, both politically and economically.

Ettela'at News: Persagonian and Saudi relations deteriotes even further after accusations of Persagonian support for republicanist opposition parties. Both nations are now on the verge of a Middle Eastern Cold War, said Persagonian diplomat.

The current reigning Regime in Tehran is genocidal anti-Semitic perfidy of the great Persian civilization. Instead of becoming free, democratic, wealthy, peaceful country, ayatollahs suppress their own people and culture and support their corrupt and bloody rule with more repressions. Oh, and this little something known as NUKES.

I say – they must fall for the betterment and peace of the whole region. Seeing hundreds of men and women standing together despite the police brutality is inspirational. Iranians saying loudly and clearly they’ve had enough of this brutal and corrupt Regime. I hope that this is the moment that would be heal the rift in the increasingly partisan and divided nature of the US society. After all, the victory of democracy, non-proliferation and security for the US and allies is a victory for all.

I hope this time the US (yeah, I know – Trump is still in office) will support this grassroots movement for democracy. If not – I think CIA needs a shakedown, seeing as they are not doing their job properly. Because Iran is a rogue actor that without doubt contributed greatly to the North Korean nuclear program. Take them out and the DPRK will cease being cocky.

1. I doubt it, at the moment. However, the Middle-East is a fickle place. Things could change very rapidly, so I'll stick with a tentative "not for now".

2. This, I'm more confident that they will not. For one, the Iranian protests appear to be focused on issues regarding Iranian people, so I doubt that this will be the "Second Arab Spring" - and yes, I am fully aware that Iranians are not Arabs. Just using the catch-all term for any mass democracy movement used in the Middle-East. The heavyweights in the Arab world, such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE, are well-entrenched after the events of 2011 and 2012, and there should be no spread of the movement to these countries. Which brings me to point three...

3. I don't personally have an opinion about this, as I am not a U.S. citizen nor a resident, but I'd say the answer really quite depends on your ideological outlook, as well as what you want to achieve. Therefore, there's no one answer to this.

They are finding cracks in the system, toppled with rising price on commodities and transport, along with Trump's threat of scrapping the nuclear deal and re-implementing sanctions.

Police open fire as nationwide protests in iran escalate

What was originally a protest in mashad over rising prices, became a national protest primarily against Ayatollah Khamenei and Hassan Rouhani, the president of Iran.
What are your thoughts on the circumstances NSG?

We could at least announce our support for them, or for free and open elections in Iran free from the influence of the mullahs, at least.
