Here's a better thought on education, if you're going to make attendance mandatory than the state gets to pay for all the school supplies that parents have to pay for every year.

Oh, maybe it's different in the US.

Did you go to public school? In Canada, parents generally only pay for basic school supplies (paper, pencils, pens, binders, etc.). It usually doesn't cost that much, maybe $100.00 bucks a year.

What did they make your mother pay for?
