Nah. Here every home appliance is single-phase, 220 V 60 Hz, electric stoves, electric ovens, and even electric boilers included.

Of course most buildings get the three-phase 380 V 60 Hz, which is converted for domestic use and used directly for high-power appliances like water pumps and lifts. Also small shops use the three-phase for heavy appliances such as professional dough mixers.

I once had Rabbit Meat with Yellow Rice and Currants. Rather nice.
On that same holiday I managed to try some Swordfish. I forgot what it tasted like, but it looked like a giant cod.

In future I want to make curries with Game Meat from the butchers. When the season comes, I'm planning on Rabbit Curry or Pheasant Curry

Yellow rice is better when it comes to fried rice. A restaurant in the city I live make fried rice with yellow rice and unagi, that was really good.

When I do Yellow Rice, I just plop a bit of Turmeric in.

Apparently Fried Rice is pre-boiled rice.. fried later

Well naturally. If you just took raw rice and fried it you'd get something that is just as hard as raw rice. Which is to say roughly as chewable as concrete. Boiling it beforehand allows it to absorb moisture and swell into a soft and edible form.

Yes, and to do it right, you need to let it sit at least overnight before frying.

Do you leave it in water or drain it out and leave it out dry?

Yeah, you have to boil/steam first (with slightly reduced water, you don't want the rice to taste mushy like sushi rice). And yeah, like Katganistan said, it's good to leave it over night, I usually put it in a container and put it in the fridge over night. Although, that's not required, if you're in hurry, you can fry it right away, it just won't taste as good. Also, instead of using only salt or soy sauce for taste, I recommend a combination of hoisin and oyster sauce, add a bit water so it's not as thick.

I'm actually Chinese and honestly, I recommend steaming the rice instead of boiling. Although, if you choose to boil it, maybe drain it out, put it in a sealed container, then leave it in fridge over nights. You want the rice to be firm by the time you fry it, not mushy like sushi rice.

Just how do you steam rice? Do you just mean cooking it covered up or that thing people do where they put a cloth over it once cooked? Or is there like a special process?

Normally we use a rice cooker, sometimes people may use pressure, steam pot or slow cooker. In my family, we use those Japanese rice cookers that are made specifically and pretty much only for rice cooking, however, if you don't use either one of those, I think there are alternative ways to make steamed rice.

Basically I don't own one and am thus looking for alternatives I can do with regular cooking utensils.

A pan and a lid that you don't take off during the cooking process. 2 parts water to 1 part rice by volume.

Not perfect but the closest you'll get without special stuff.

If you eat enough rice, get a rice cooker. We don't maybe once a week.
The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

Yeah, something like this. You put rice and water inside an oven safe bowl or something. Put 3-4cm of water in a spaghetti pot, then but the bowl inside the pot (use a really deep and large bowl for this). Set it to high heat and cook for 15-20 minutes ish until rice is soft

Yeah, if you eat rice commonly, then get one of those Japanese rice cookers, they are really easy to use, and have tons of cool features such as setting timers (basically, it will start cooking at the determined time)

Thanks. I imagine that's how they would have done it before people invented modern specialized pots anyway.

Alternatively, I heard there are microwave steaming methods, not sure how it works though

I am somewhat skeptical toward anything microwave related. I only really use mine for defrosting. As in I put frozen meat on a plate and into my microwave so that my cat can't get at it and leave it to defrost naturally over time.

My mum cooks rice exclusively in the microwave. It does work.
