So, yeah. Kidnap and torture a disabled guy, commit a hate crime, and you'll get off with probation. This is a pretty grotesque case, and I can't fathom how someone could do something like this and not get sentenced to a single day of jail time.

I imagine it has something to do with already having done a year in jail and, from the sounds of things, being the least involved perpetrator. Pleading guilty and maybe having an otherwise clean record may also have helped.

There's no justice here. Anyone who would do something like this to another human being is demented, and should be locked up for the rest of their life so that they can't harm another person.

I don't know about a life sentence, but probation after a year served feels light. I wonder if she made a deal to testify against the other two. Hardly seems like that would be necessary if the whole thing was recorded, though.

Chicago would be in riots right now over this and a lot of us would be demanding their head. Most likely scenario.

This does bring a lot of questions about jurisprudence in general, considering they lowered the sentence because she pled guilty, was the least responsible of the four, and she wasn't a big problem for the courts. To be fair, it'd draw ire because they should sentence them all as a group, but it'd bring more ire and an overreaction from the public than the one being noticed now.

I don't think any of that would sway the rioters.

I wonder what "least responsible" means in this context. I'm not necessarily saying the sentencing is wrong (facts of the case are what they are and I don't know them all other than the videos are obscene), but I just pictured this article with all the different race gender configurations (4 black men and 1 white woman, 4 white women and 1 black man, 4 white men and one 1 black woman, and of course hte original case of 4 black women and 1 white man) and I'd bet this would be a lot more outrage in at least 2 of those 4 configurations.

(I'm not sure what the four white women and one black man would look like. That's a crapshoot).

I mean, we know so far that the girl, Brittany Covington, was only livestreaming and narrating some of the shit going on, but if this was any of the other configurations with a stricter judge, like we say where I come from "justo por pecador" (contextual: both saint and sinner would pay in equal measure on this).

Seems like the judge was a "rehab" judge, or one of those judges who believe in sentencing as a means to rehabilitate people into society, not punish them.

She narrated the video and I don't believe actually participated in the actual physical violence against the victim, but I still don't believe she should be released on probation. Certainly the other two don't deserve anything other than the maximum available sentences for their crimes.

Thing is, remember you said that. When you have done enough that us, "whites" will break our intolerance. Many already have, but that is a small proportion. Thing is as I stated before and it is sad I need to quote myself and so I won't, but rather summarize myself.

Whites are a minority as much as Africans or Arabs. Thing is, both share about the same amount of "population". However, thing is the most tolerant out of everyone besides the Asians tend to be White people and let's be honest here. So saying this, is truly ignorant and as stated racist. Seeing as racism can be shown and expressed by any race as all have institutional power, just look to what has been done in other countries and it shows. While I can honestly, not believe this was even stated. Seeing as the question is, how did Trump cause this? Plus there is no white terror, where are the statistics of this and why have I not heard of it? But yes, hate crimes on all spectrum's are on the rise. Depending on what you mean by hate crime, as I do believe in the freedom of speech and I can not see speech as a hate crime. Unless, they have intention of calling for violence against you or others.
