Racism is not tolerated in American society as seen by the numerous people who have lost their jobs for saying the “N-word”, so it’s not a societal problem. Everyone is equal under the law as the constitution and its amendments safe guard this for citizens. The last one is very thought police-y, but I do agree that people should identify initial racial prejudice and try to push through it.

Legal equality doesn't mean racial prejudice doesn't exist. OP I agree that residential segregation is still a problem in the US, but you aren't helping your side by posting stories from questionable news sources.

I don’t see what a compromise that was struck down BY a constitutional amendment after the civil war devalidates the point that the constitution is there to protect American people. If anything, it shows how the constitution was able to evolve to safeguard the rights of MORE people. Maybe I’m missing the point, please explain!

Because the people that wrote the Constitution included that compromise, and it took a civil war to get it removed. And even then it took until the Civil Rights Act to actually enforce that equality. If you're going to praise something for protecting peoples' rights, praise the civil rights movement leaders or abolitionists, not a piece of paper written in the 18th century.

What other metric am I supposed to judge societies tolerance of racism on? The small prejudices humans have against other race that by no way can be removed but only mended by rational thought? Or actual racist protests that proudly display racism on a pedestal that was shot down brutally with that same rational thought that destroys predjudice? Thank you, however, for displaying to me that racism can’t always be measured by its most obvious shows.

As for your other point, I’m sorry you associate my love of the constitution as devaluing the Civil rights leaders and abolinists. If it were not for them, the changes we have today would not of happened nor would they be set in stone without conditional amendments they helped to create.

The article is mainly about the city of Troy, which is technically a suburb of Albany the capital of New York State. The city is a reflection of a growing trend where people of color are moving to smaller cities or suburban areas and changing the demographics. Yet the police forces in those communities don't treat them well nor do people in the community.

They treat them differently and the residents act like they are bringing crime and lowering their property values among other things. The police forces also don't reflect the changing demographics and the departments seem hostile to allowing non whites into their club. To be clear I am not saying that someone should get a job because of their race.

I think this is white protectionism and its highly disturbing and unacceptable. There is no link between race and crime and people shouldn't feel unwelcome where they reside.
The United States is a diverse multicultural country. People should be allowed to reside wherever they want and not feel like their town or city is unwelcoming or hostile to them because of their race.
