first of all walking out is disruptive to those who dont want to participate. 2nd students go to school to learn not play politics. 3rd most of them most likely did it to just get out of class.

One of those events happens on campus during school hours the other happened off school campus outside of school hours. If students want to protest and not get punished their are a number of avenues for them to do that without disrupting others classroom experience, and depending on how the walk out is handled it may meet this criteria. Shooting a gun off campus and outside of school hours does not in any way disrupt the classroom.
