I had thought I gave you at least some reason to be optimistic (maybe) on page 92 of this thread near the top. 5G wireless might prove to be competitive enough to go up against traditional wired broadband services such as DSL and Cable. A 10+ year project perhaps, but more choice and higher speeds for consumers in the long run.

Yes, chances are that cable providers will also want to be your wireless carrier, but they're at a disadvantage in that they have all this old and expensive infrastructure that can't easily be transitioned to wireless right away, and companies that have been "wireless only" from the beginning have a head start and it generally costs less than running fiber or cable.

In the mean time, municipal broadband is a pretty good solution to private ISPs that have too much monopoly leverage, provided your locale is well off enough to do this. I really like that idea. Chattanooga is smart enough to have invested in this.
