So far, in the examples you provided only one showed a company relenting after the FCC fined them. In many of the others the companies chose to relent on their own because their practices were being exposed and their consumers got pissed off. It's bad business to make your customers angry. That standard applies even to service providers.

Not really. Customers being pissed off doesn't necessarily mean losing customers.

Comcast, in particular, has a 38% dissatisfaction rating among their customers.

I'd tend to think that it reaches a certain point where if you piss them off too much then they've had enough. Many of the examples you provided were instances where companies changed their policies after being exposed.

It's the rational thing to do economically. Prevent the competition from competing.

And lets talk about these specific instances First we had Voice over IP this happened early 2000's when VoIP was relatively new and bandwidths were much smaller than they are. And why in theory a two way voice conversation should not use much more than 64k and most broad bands were advertised between 512k and 2.5 meg at the time phone calls lasted longer than more typical website browsing which comes in spurts. Once networks upgraded they stopped doing that not through action of the govnerment.

With comcast again Netflix was asked to pay for better access when streaming videos was new and Comcast (the discount ISP) did not have facilities to provide it in a reasonable fashion. Yes a high def Video only takes about 5 megs but again watching a 5 to 10 minute on youtube has a different affect on the network than binge watching movies for 5 to 10 hours.
