I was visiting a girl in Saint Andrews I know. Some very nice pubs up there.

That brings back memories. I got absolutely pished during a pub crawl in St.Andrews, and we all thought it'd be a good idea to go for a walk on the West Sands, even though it was a moonless night. It really wasn't a good idea. I fell down a sand dune.

But regardless, back to the subject of trains.

Thanks to Trains we have gotten drunk in the same place. Next time I am in the area I will hit you up for a St. Andrews pub crawl. I will be certain to talk politics with you just to see all those college kids eye roll.

Aanyway to Japan Rail they are a good company. They once kept a train stop open for 2 years for one passenger that was a high school student.

Once my bus was running late. So it skipped me. I was right there, and it skipped me. I ran after it, and it skipped me. Didn't even stop. Just cut across the parking lot.

Had to wait another hour for the fucker.

Basically what I'm saying is, Japan, your public transportation fuckups are a dream world to the rest of us.

Once I got on a bus and the driver took a ten-minute detour to get a burger.

Japan should shut up.

...that is some serious public transportation. In Saskatoon, the bus is often pretty early or pretty late, and they haven't really apologized for that.

Public transportation in North America just seems to suck in general.

By contrast, since British Rail was privatized in the 1990's, punctuality has not improved at all. From a base of 90% of trains arriving on time in 1998 before privatization, it was 88% in 2016 after privatization. And that is with investment going up nine-fold, from £698m in 1994–95 to £6.84bn in 2013–14. Go figure...

Maybe it has something to do with the culture

Indeed.

But needless to say, this is why I always have to leave at least an hour before I have to get to Point A: the buses are so shit that if I waited 30 minutes before I go, there's little chance I would arrive on time.

Because it's a fact of life. Have mercy, it's expensive to maintain bus systems in wide prairie cities, especially with the extreme variation in weather conditions. Consequently, we can't run as many routes as frequently as we would like, and road conditions (especially at this time of year) make being on time basically impossible with a single year-round schedule.

In Japan everything is perfectly organized and executed. But a train (a high speed one) leaving 20 seconds early?
