That is creepy as hell that you should mention that, I live near Leuchars, no joke! To be honest the line between Dundee and Edinburgh is always getting problems like that, a train hit a fallen tree on the line just 2 weeks ago.

I was visiting a girl in Saint Andrews I know. Some very nice pubs up there.

That brings back memories. I got absolutely pished during a pub crawl in St.Andrews, and we all thought it'd be a good idea to go for a walk on the West Sands, even though it was a moonless night. It really wasn't a good idea. I fell down a sand dune.

But regardless, back to the subject of trains.

Japan privatized their rail ages ago. Its why they are almost always on time.

By contrast, since British Rail was privatized in the 1990's, punctuality has not improved at all. From a base of 90% of trains arriving on time in 1998 before privatization, it was 88% in 2016 after privatization. And that is with investment going up nine-fold, from £698m in 1994–95 to £6.84bn in 2013–14. Go figure...

But needless to say, this is why I always have to leave at least an hour before I have to get to Point A: the buses are so shit that if I waited 30 minutes before I go, there's little chance I would arrive on time.

Because it's a fact of life. Have mercy, it's expensive to maintain bus systems in wide prairie cities, especially with the extreme variation in weather conditions. Consequently, we can't run as many routes as frequently as we would like, and road conditions (especially at this time of year) make being on time basically impossible with a single year-round schedule.
