Regardless of the reasoning behind it, it gives these people precisely the evidence they need to push their views. Even if all 25 people who voted for that option were trolling, that doesn't change the fact that there exists a vocal minority of progressives who push narratives such as "White people are all racist" and "It's impossible to be racist towards a white person." I can no more pretend those people don't exist than you can pretend the alt-right doesn't exist. They are not representative of their larger respective groups, so it is in the best interests of those groups to denounce them.
