It's not an unbacked opinion, it's literally just a statement of fact and common knowledge. Consider if I seriously told you there was debate as to whether the sky was red or blue and that the science wasn't in yet- it's not a debate, I'd just be saying something dumb, and I see no reason to put a lot of effort into correcting it.
