My question is what drew you to Sorealianism?

Hmm...well many things. I agree with his views on the utility of violence in transforming society and the virtues of bold combat against ones enemies. I'm a moralist, so I also agree with Sorel on using socialism to rekindle the worker and soldier morality in civilization. I agree with him mostly on the motivation for socialism, but not necessarily the form such a society would take, I'm a great deal more authoritarian than he was.

Not to mention that this thread split off from LWDT, so I assumed you would think this thread was a "revisionist hellhole".

I'll try it, but I can't guarantee I'll get far.

I've tried reading Phenomenology of the Spirit in the past, and just... couldn't get into it. I didn't mind the esotericism so much as Hegel's habit of taking half-a-dozen pages just to make one simple point... every damn time.

The Philosophy of Right is far more lucid. I would not recommend Phenomenology of the Spirit to anyone, and in my opinion it contains a great deal of charlatanism.

Democracy essentially forces the entirety of the society to follow the will of a simple majority of the people, even if the majority are immoral degenerates who want policies and actions that are a poison to society.

Only in an absolute democracy, but most """democracies""" only use democracy for certain things. In the United States, for instance, it originally was limited to the election of the lower house.

Having everyone make a single decision forces the evil that is decided upon everyone's conscience. It makes us all responsible for the evils that our government commits in our name.

I don't know any democracy that is run by plebiscites, or even could be (except on a local level). Moreover, even representatives in the democracy of the U.S., are not supposed to simply be the tools of their constituents' will. The Federalist Papers says, for instance, that representatives are elected to make decisions based on their own judgement, and are obligated to go against the will of their constituents when there is a conflict.

If you give the representatives their power, and they commit evil in your name, then you have committed evil. If power and legitimacy comes from the popular will, which is the basic premise of democracy, then the people are responsible for what that power and legitimacy does. That is why it is better to have a monarch, because the monarch commits evil without the popular will, so that the people aren't sullied by it, and the monarch is alone responsible for his actions.

I do think the upper house and the executive should absolutely not be subject to popular vote. That makes zero sense. It's like popular election of justices of the Supreme Court.
