A small minority already pays for government.

Mitt Romney, although insensitive, was totally correct.

This tbh, I'm hyped for space automated colonies

I think that it is morally disgusting, placing our values and goals on earthly things. I also happen to believe it is unsustainable and if we do not dramatically change our consumption habits we will, inevitably, collapse our own biosphere.

Yeah, fueling the modern economy and consumerism are biting us in the ecological ass, but they aren't morally disgusting- don't listen to people who try to tell you our values have ever really been about anything besides "earthly things", as you summarize them. And I'm not too concerned about the super long term of the biosphere- life on Earth will survive regardless, and if we go down I doubt it'll be due to slow suffocation as we'd end up heading off to space, but rather in a nuclear firestorm, at which point long-term considerations kinda go out the window (or get blown out the window, I guess).

Unless we make incredibly rapid progress in the next few decades it'll be too late. We need to make pretty radical changes NOW if we want to prevent serious environmental (and of course human) crisis.

We can no longer talk in terms of "preventing" crisis. We're already in crisis and it's a matter of how bad it'll be.

Hint: if it'd take radical events that on their own constitute a crisis to "avoid" a crisis, and we're already suffering the consequences of the latter crisis, then it's no longer worth discussing "preventing" it, merely mitigating.

Maybe, maybe not. The truth is scientists don't really know what they're talking about when they predict future climate change,

Incorrect.
and it's difficult to tell how much of global warming is caused by human emissions and how much is natural.

Wrong.
Changes do need to be made, but it's hard to say how much we affect the environment,

No, it isn't.
and how drastic the future is environmentally.

Wrong again.

We currently in a era of mass extinction - it's not a hyperbole. Give another 50 years and we will have destroyed what remains of the rain forest, the great barrier reef, and the world's major fisheries.

Yes, we face grave challenges and are causing colossal ecological damage that will bite us in the ass in big ways, but it was an exaggeration earlier to say we're on the path to "collapsing the biosphere." Don't delude yourself into thinking humans are special enough or powerful enough to end complex life or something.
Space colonization is a pipe dream

Less so every day.
until it can be made significantly cheaper -

More so every day.
which will not be for a long time, or in other words, too late.

Depends on what you define as "a long time." I'll bet you $1 that the first space habitat will be operational before the first WALL-E unit or whatever.

We need to stop relying on fantasies and the future generations to fix our problems; we need to start taking responsibility now.

We are, but it's foolish to think we can just put the brakes on the global economy and be able to continue making efforts to mitigate and undo the damage we're doing and have done. The growth of the world economy also drives innovation and funding that's needed for the big solutions that the future needs.

I've read the NOAA Climate Report and researched the topic. If you didn't want to debate over this topic, then why did you respond to my post?

If you didn't want to debate over this topic,

There's no debate to be had. There's facts and there's the truth.
then why did you respond to my post?

Didn't seem like anyone had called you out for posting that tired old bullshit, so figured I'd wave the flag. Maybe on another day I'd have the energy to go gather up an effortpost of links and chuckle as you tried to pick them apart with various garbage pieces of whataboutism, misinterpretation or misunderstanding, and anti-intellectualism, but I don't, so enjoy.

In the meantime, feel free to post your grand proof that the global scientific community is wrong- we've all been waiting for god knows how many years for someone to come up with something rigorous, maybe you'll have turned up some new and groundbreaking science on the matter.

You could even quote one article and explain your viewpoint. Saying “incorrect” and “wrong” is not arguing.

There are plenty of people who feel that we have swayed away from the spiritual and have become very materialistic. Sure, most of America still identifies as religious, but most are not as devout as, say, Christian settlers (for the most part) of the 18th century.

C’mon now, Senkaku, we had this same issue with Flutter in the FCC Thread. You can do better than this. If there is no debate then don’t reply. Otherwise you’re either giving an unbacked opinion, or you’re just fronting.

I'm much more inclined to believe the global scientific community over random people on the internet who think they see The Truth.

Also, as a secondary question, is becoming less spiritual a bad thing?

I would say no, not necessarily. Although some people have different definitions of spiritual. Some see it as an entirely different concept as religiousness, others as more of a synonym.

'muh economy'

This expression indicates a Californians' confusion and lack of understanding. When confronted with something he can not understand or respond to, Californians mumble, 'MUH ECONOMY.' This is usually followed by intense rectal pain from anal cancer (from homosexuality), intense White cuckoldry, or both.
