No it's not, the family is rooted in social, face-to-face bonding. The nation is faceless and abstract except as realized in the "little platoons" like family and the church. Bonds between the little platoons produces the community, bonds between communities form provinces, and bonds between provinces form a nation.

I can't see the right getting very far without nationalism.

I don't think that really works. Family is at the root a coming together of sexual mates, with outgrowth stemming from that union; but just as important is a dwelling-together. When dwelling together is absent, you can be kindred, but you are only a family in a removed sense; when a man leaves his father and mother and cleaves unto his wife, they become removed family.
