That is a shame, I was hoping you'd change what many regard as your unhealthy behaviour, not leave the thread for good. Keeping with my beliefs I am never fond of ostracising people, driving them away or holding grudges. Best of luck in future endeavours and feel free to return when you see fit.

People really overestimate how many followers Jesus had during his lifetime. His mass popularity came after his death, largely due to the work of his apostles, with Paul in particular having played a huge role in introducing Christianity to the Graeco-Roman world. Incidentally, this was also due to laxing standards and dumbing down the initial message.



And... I just realized you're talking about his apostles and not Jesus per se. Well shit, now I feel stupid.

It always cracks me up that people think Christ's apostles and a few women were his only disciples. He taught massive crowds and was followed by them.

Mate, he wasn't even considered important enough during his lifetime for the Romans to bother recording his death. They just crucified him and left him to die like a common Jewish zealot.

I realize he's your messiah/god, but this understanding of him as some kind of populist preacher is extremely ahistorical and the product of later theologians with a propensity for exaggerating the truth.

Uh, I think it was a few chapters into Genesis and I'm in Exodus now. It's for a project that requires that I take a long time to do it.

Yeah, it's a bit of a slog at times particularly the Old Testament for me. I've read through the Gospels and the Epistles easily enough, but I've never read the Old Testament cover-to-cover.

Good comparison actually. How many Christians can say they have read the Bible critically front to end and still retain much of the knowledge it imparts? Even priests have to constantly re-read it and it's their job to lead the religion.

Well, if Islam has people who can memorize the entire Qur'an by heart, I imagine there are Christians who can recall much of the Bible by heart.
