I wouldn't be worried about WWIII. You might see a Second Korean war, but I don't expect this to become too much of a problem.

Second? It would be a continuation since the first never ended.

Sadly, yes.

Possible but I would prefer that to happen under diplomatic means and not warfare if only for the sake of the Korean people who have suffered enough already.

But there won't be a diplomatic unification until North and South are economic equals. Joining a population as technologically advanced as South Korea with a population as (for lack of a better term) stone age as North Korea would be devastating to both.

That won't happen in the foreseeable future nor do I see how a unification through military force would fix the situation or make it any better.

Reunification is a terrible idea. people need to stop focusing on that and think about how to get a democracy going there.

Utterly pointless. Democracy cannot survive without the necessary infrastructure and economic conditions to make a relative free flow exchange of ideas and self sustaining populace. Without those two factors, all you'd get is feuding warlords based on who has the biggest guns.

Democracy is a luxury for people with full stomachs. And North Korea's general populace is as far from having full stomachs as they are from the moon.

East Germany had made an effort to try to keep up with it's estranged brethren; there's little evidence NK has in any way save militarily. Plus, East Germany was only a third the size and population of West Germany - the Korean peninsula was divided fairly evenly.

I'm just saying - apparently it's not at all cut and dried that there needs to be equality before reunification could take place.

You're right, equality isn't necessary. But where East Germany's economy could be carried by the rest while it modernized, South Korea would go bankrupt trying to do so for NK. You'd need some sort of reform and reconstruction of economy before reunification becomes economically feasible. Not a full sale equality, but enough so that the former NK could hold it's own in the nation's commerce.
