So basically Bananas are being assaulted in Asia and Australia really badly by this hard to say fungus, or disease which has also been spotted in Africa and the Middle East. Experts say it's only time before its spotted in the Americas the biggest supplier of Bananas in the world. Scientists as well are racing to formulate a Super Cavendish Banana or more simply a GM Banana to fight off the effects of the attacker. Could this be the need of the Banana split, Banana cream pie and other delicious Banana based dishes?

I hope not I love bananas especially in fruit salad and banana pudding w/nilla wafers but I'm sure that the disease/virus will die off to a point it won't destroy off the entire Banana population.

This has happened before, a problem with monogenetic crops. There are plenty of other types of banana.

should I be concerned though?

I know this absolutely delicious afternoon tea place where they serve a banana vanilla fruit cake (absolutely delicious).

What if the banana is ruined/destroyed?

This happened before in the 50s, all they did was switch from the Gros Michel banana to the Cavendish banana. All we have to do is find something else to switch to.

Also, this switch is the reason all the banana flavor candy doesn't taste like banana, because it tastes like the Gros Michel, not the Cavendish

anyway the great irony here is that this has happened before and the Gros Michel decline was precisely due to industrial cultivation of GM cultivars by an uncaring industry.

now fortunately Honduras and Cuba still grow Gros Michel and have bred a disease-resistant variety. Moreover there are other naturally occuring varieties - reds are delicious - so hopefully a more sensible industry will emerge after the realisation that monogenetic agriculture on a global scale is very very bad

but also

Bring back the Gros Michel!!!

What about Granana (Grapes + Banana) i.e. Like the Grapple or Wanana (Watermelon + Banana) or the Stranana (Strawberry + Banana)
