But to answer the OP, probably not how you're imagining it.

Major regression to human society has only happened once with the bronze age collapse. Society kept on chugging along without the romans and Europe entered into the renaissance shortly after the black death proving that didn't cause a regression.

There are a wide variety of things that could bring about the end of human life on Earth and on a long enough timescale at least one of them will certainly happen. I wouldn't count on Jesus showing up to sort the righteous from the wicked, though.
