For one thing this is not full mix. It's more a trial run at the cub scout level. You can have girl dens, boys can decide to be no girl packs and girls can be in their own.
It does offer things.
1) Families with boys and girls can go to one Troop( even though its a Den)
2) Girls can do the boy scout stuff.
This is a wake up call to GSA. They have been getting rather lame (at least my way as my wife is involved). For example, you can get a camping badge without camping. A first aid badge without knowing able to use first aid. It's more about researching and talking to people about stuff rather then doing the stuff.
Girls want do things. They want to canoe, they want to camp, they want to know how to tie knots and use a pocket knife.....
I can see girls taking this up.
Well that's better. I guess it's not so bad. Though the Cookie Cartel needs to be disbanded
