GSA made the wanky move of phasing out all the usual camping and stuff about 20-30 years ago. Now it's all about talking to people and research. You can get a camping badge and not even camp.
This will be a wake up call for them. Even the girls in my wifes troop like what the boys do more......
Building fires and whittling OR sewing and making exquisite omelets?

Cooking is an Eagle required Merit Badge now. I make no claims about exquisite omelets, but you have to write a full weeks worth of meals, figure out the cost of it all, and cook 3 or so meals iirc.
Boy Scouts have been working their way towards adding additional skills.

That's like, planning and making a roster, right? Which I assume is like a leadership skill.

Yes, meal planning. Not so much the roster (although that does happen on actual campouts).
It has to be nutritionally sound as well.
Actually cooking food is required though, so it isn't all leadership.

I'm pretty sure that's been a merit badge for 20+ years, as those requirements are real familiar...

I'm all for equality and all that good stuff. But this whole thing is just assinine. For cripes sake, the organization is called the BOY Scouts. I know girls can do everything guys can and all that, but certain things should still be boys only. Hell, girls have their own scout thing.
What do you all think of this?

That's entirely different in every way, because:

Aren't BSA and GSA wholly separate organizations?
Hakons wrote:Ifreann wrote:So girls in the Boy Scouts wouldn't hamper scouting in anyway, and in fact already happens.
So...what, does it freak you out that the name isn't totally accurate? Change the name then.
Presumably because you didn't live in Ireland when the CBSI was a thing. That was a scouting organisation. It sounds like you're in a cult.
I'm mad because the Boy Scouts just casually throw away the entire purpose of their organization to appease people that will never send their kids into the organization.
The name is wildly inaccurate. If they want to become America Scouts, or something, they can go ahead and do that. Naturally, the organization will drop in membership and doners, and another American institution will be lost to modernism.

The country has an obligation for gender equality. If you had read all of my post, you would have noticed my explicit statement that this is bad and that girls should be in the GSA or in venture scouts.
Hakons wrote:Yeah, I now see the inconstincies in my argument. Still, I find the accusations that I was a reactionary trying to go back to the Boy Scouts of 1910 to be ridiculous and unbased. As my first post in this thread said, I believe the boy scouts should be for boys, and I reckon the majority of boy scouts, not to mention girl scouts, agree.

Running Scouts like a business is probably the greatest threat to scouting. That brand of cancer has started to affect the BSA recently. The council whose camp I used to work for got infected by it a few years back. They completely gutted the camp's traditions and culture so they could cut costs and increase profits. It wasn't enough that our camp made money, it needed t make more money and thus everyone experienced staff needed to be purged and replaced with a private company run which promised to run the camp for cheap and make the council loads more money than it already was making. Shit like that is the real thing dragging scouts down. The genitals of the orginization's membership don't matter in the least.
