His accomplishments:

1. Draining the everglades to create fertile farmland for Florida. (then considered useless swamp, as people did not understand its ecology or relation to water table and habitat.)

I don't know if it's much of an accomplishment to damage the environment for economic gain. That sounds pretty shit, actually.

We've been doing it for hundreds of years already XD

no but seriously, I will edit it.

Everyone then thought it was a good idea to do it, because they didn't know anything about evironmental destruction, or the importance of the land. They honestly just saw it was useless swamp.

Yes, because that history triggers weak men who cannot tolerate the presence of statues to anything they do not support. I'm not a racist, but I understand that a governor of Florida who hasn't directly committed mass human atrocities is worth preserving.

The CSA thing is even worse: there are still millions of people directly descended from CSA veterans and a lifetime of defense of the CSA, and an entire other side of the Civil War that they want to completely purge from all public record.
It's not just the statues: the other side want to whitewash history and paint the CSA as a cartoon villian, and largely, they have succeeded. The Civil War pitted two slave states against each other, and the reason the North even attacked was because the South has the export money (funding the government) and all the ports. There was nothing noble about the Northern casus belli.

There are people who literally cannot tolerate the fact that there were two sides on the Civil War, and anything referencing the "bad guys" is to be purged because it hurts feelings of freemen who have never faced chattel slavery, Jim Crow, or any mistreatment deliberately and openly enforced by the state in any capacity.

Tact is often the witholding of truth. We should not be forced to respect the feelings of people too weak to look at other opinions and dissenting concepts. I do not care about the opinions of strangers, and you should not either. If something offends them, they can leave.

Generally speaking, if something offends someone, and that something is coming from your mouth, and you're not being a better person and saying, "my apologies, I didn't mean to say or do something that could be perceived as rude," then you're probably in the wrong.

But, y'know, I guess offering the basic level of respect a person should get is too much nowadays.

As a Christian, that is what I have always been told in the face of Taking the Lord's Name In Vain and defacement of religious symbols. It's what I am told when I see homosexual crap on television, and it's what I am told when porn is being distributed. Hold them to that same standard.

So... homosexuals, people who view porn, and people who dislike religion should leave?

How vain.

Taking down something because it offends some weak, pathetic peoples' feelings is among the absolute worst possible consequences of democracy. There is a reason the Founding Fathers were so afraid of tryanny-by-majority.

Ah, yes, those Uppity NegroesTM asking to receive the same respect anyone else should be given is being weak and pathetic, especially in regards to when they wish to remove a symbol espousing hatred against them. Silly me.

No dude, they have to purge everything before the 1960s AD because teaching about Jim Crow, WWI, WWII, and the Holocaust hurts their feelings and makes them hide in Safe Spaces. Oh, and that icky nasty Vietnam War and the atrocities of the Khmer Rogue, the Soviet Union (NOT REAL COMMUNISM), and others have to go too. We can't have anything painting the left as bad.

Just you wait: these groups are going to burn paintings, then books, and then, as is inevitable, men.

Oh wait. They are already burning men: or at least the buildings and properties of men.

That is exactly what I've always been told. If I don't like the homosexuality, if I don't like the blasphemy or mockery of a religion, if I don't like porn, I "don't have to watch it" and must leave. That's the standard they hold religious people to, but they will not apply that standard to themselves in the presence of Southern culture or the CSA. Leftist responses to religious people offended by something obscene, or hateful, etc. to them or their God, god, or gods, is to suck it up. After all, it's freedom of speech when they do it.

Torrocca wrote:Ah, yes, those Uppity NegroesTM asking to receive the same respect anyone else should be given is being weak and pathetic, especially in regards to when they wish to remove a symbol espousing hatred against them. Silly me.

Your words, not mine.

The blacks are not demanding respect: they are already equal before the law. Respect is earned, not demanded, and they are not earning it by rioting, looting, and torching cities while screeching anti-police bigotry and explicitly calling for policemen to be killed. Nor are they earning respect by spitting on the flag and the country, and making a grandstanding scene of themselves on national television.

It's a matter of vengeance: despite modern blacks never being systematically oppressed by the government, they are demanding the systematic erasure of anything that ever done their ancestors wrong. That's nothing but bad news for them: erasure of Jim Crown makes it impossible for us to show what it did to people, and starts the means to bring it back.

They have no right to remove something that they don't like because they don't like it.

Well, that makes sense, then. You're being intolerant of things that by all means are undeserving of intolerance, whereas, in the case of the CSA, intolerance of an intolerant institution is fine and dandy.

And, speaking from a Christian perspective, did "Love Thy Neighbor" and "Judge Not, Lest Ye be Judged" leave your dictionary or some shit?

Leaving symbols of oppression against one specific race erected doesn't sound like equality. Neither does gunning down unarmed minorities in the streets by law enforcement.

Your words, not mine.

The blacks are not demanding respect: they are already equal before the law...... SNIP.........

It's a matter of vengeance: despite modern blacks never being systematically oppressed by the government,....SNIP....

They have no right to remove something that they don't like because they don't like it.

They're are now demanding privilege-- special treatment.

Actually, I was saying that I didn't see the need to be hypersensitive, like some. Even though there are symbols that disgust me too.

It's a shit point when you're comparing the centuries of varying degrees of systemic oppression of minorities in America to disliking "those icky gay folk".

Not wanting monuments in honor of people who thought black people were lesser beings worthy of lesser rights is being "hypersensitive" now?

Just In Case™ we need to only build monuments in honor of people who could have never met a black person in their life, to avoid the possibility. So... statues of ancient Far Eastern historical figures for everybody? That would be... uh... Qin Shi Huang... maybe another person...

I'm being facetious, but someone somewhere would probably agree sincerely.
