Local news is reporting that someone my family was friends with was killed in the shooting. I didn't know him very well, but I had been to parties at his house.

If I had some cover, I would have tried to engage him. The Deagle has a surprisingly good range and low spread.

A couple of things:

1. You're not going to hit a target 32 floors up with a handgun, and you're likely going to hit an innocent person.
2. If there's a mass shooting and they don't know where it's from, guess what? You're now a suspect because you're waving around/firing a gun in the crowd.

The original point was a person suggesting they carry a firearm because they fear criminals, thugs and rapists. Related because of their love of their "freedom" yet they can't outside their house without a weapon in case they meet someone else who means ill for them. That doesn't sound like freedom to me, it sounds like living in a psychological prison.

In this situation is absolutely would not have been. You'd have been shooting at a hotel full of innocent people with no real possibility of hitting the person who was shooting at you. Shooting back would only have made things worse.
