Granted, ultimately the societal problems of the region reared their ugly heads, but in those initial days, things seemed to get better. But we're not overthrowing regimes, we're talking about changing laws for equality, especially in marriage. People lose their shit over anything. Not everyone is going to oppose men wanting "basic equality." Women aren't some monolithic one-minded culture, they're all individuals with their own thoughts. I know plenty of women that have actively supported men, and don't agree with the system either. Sure, there are people that will oppose it, but there are people that will support it as well.

Nobody thought Trump would win but he somehow pulled it off, and it seems he appealed to a large amount of people that didn't seem to vote often, but felt increasingly marginalized, whether they actually were or not.

I think consenting adults should have complete choice in regards to marriage. For all I care, someone can have multiple partners, or not get married at all. Personally, I would like to be married some day so that I don't spend my entire life lonely, but I haven't found anyone yet.
