Why, we need gun control, we are the only country on earth without an active terrorist organization where mass killings are the norm.

Because congress needs a sacrificial cow to slaughter and appease the masses to appear they have done something worth while.

Pretty much. Well, to an extent. Bump stocks can make a semi-auto fire almost as fast as a fully automatic, despite the restrictions and whatnot surrounding fully auto. So, is it worthless? Not necessarily. Should it be banned? Nope.

I don't consider 10k killings out of a pop of 355,000,000 to be "the norm"

Gun control is like trying to solve drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to own cars.

It's worthless to the average gun owner. There's no use for a fully auto gun, or a gun that acts like a fully auto, in the civilian market.

Because, the Dems will ban bump stocks, pat themselves on the back for having cured homicide. And another mass shooting will have passed without any actual inprovement. We'll come out of it just as we always have, shy a few liberties, and no safer than before.

Then along comes the next shooting, and lo and behold here come the opportunists, climbing up the bodies looking to swipe yet another slice of your liberty.

I mean, if it basically turns a semiautomatic into an automatic, that seems sensible to ban? It's a pretty tiny and pathetic step (as you say, a sacrificial cow), but still, seems sensible.

I think it has been well established in this thread that if something is 'useful' or 'needed' is irrelevant. If guns are considered a basic right, then you shouldn't be prevented from having one even if it serves no other purpose but to decorate your wall.

There's a certain logic to it, from their point of view.

because its logical, however its the only safe thing to do is to always assume that any loud pop us a gunshot unless you have visual evidence otherwise, that could save people lives, I would rather start running every time a fire work goes off thinking someone is shooting then stand still thinking its a fire work when someone is shooting.

You must be loads of fun on the Fourth of July.

Logically, as a matter of odds, any loud pop you hear is a firework or car backfiring. Much like any streak in the sky is likely to be a small meteor burning up in the atmosphere.

Sure, it could be a satellite or a spacecraft. It could also be a large meteorite on its way to destroy a city.

Or aliens attacking.

And no, everyone panicking when they hear any popping sound would not save lives. It would just cause death by trampling.
Venicilian: wow. Jesus hung around with everyone. boys, girls, rich, poor(mostly), sick, healthy, etc. in fact, i bet he even went up to gay people and tried to heal them so they would be straight.
The Parkus Empire: Being serious on NSG is like wearing a suit to a nude beach.
New Kereptica: Since power is changed energy over time, an increase in power would mean, in this case, an increase in energy. As energy is equivalent to mass and the density of the government is static, the volume of the government must increase.

Funny, the movement on this seems to be coming from the GOP.

“I own a lot of guns, and as a hunter and sportsman, I think that’s our right as Americans, but I don’t understand the use of this bump stock,” Senator John Cornyn of Texas, the No. 2 Republican in the Senate, said, adding, “It seems like it’s an obvious area we ought to explore and see if it’s something Congress needs to act on.”

Mr. Cornyn said the continuing legality of the conversion kits was “a legitimate question,” and told reporters he had asked Senator Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, the Judiciary Committee chairman, to convene a hearing on that issue and any others that arise out of the Las Vegas investigation.

Other Republican senators, including Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Orrin G. Hatch of Utah and Marco Rubio of Florida, said they would be open to considering legislation on bump stocks.

The GOP is currently in power, actually.
And another mass shooting will have passed without any actual inprovement. We'll come out of it just as we always have, shy a few liberties, and no safer than before.

"Shy a few liberties", yes, now you won't be able to turn your weapons into fully automatic killing machines. What a loss! The reason we won't have any improvement, meanwhile, is because the GOP in Congress lacks the spine to stand up to the NRA and take the kind of action that would actually bring about change.

As for being safer, I'd argue that this does add some safety, if not that much.

Then along comes the next shooting, and lo and behold here come the opportunists, climbing up the bodies looking to swipe yet another slice of your liberty.

This seems melodramatic in the extreme. No one is coming for your liberty, people just want to not have as many people getting shot left right and center.
