In my opinion the US could take some lessons on gun policy from Australia. Australia has had hardly any mass shootings since its current policy came into effect, and it still has a very healthy gun culture. You can still buy a gun there to hunt, you just need a licence.

Um... gun batons would have conspicuous ammo clips and triggers. And the only times I've seen police with any form of gun in Britain are in airports and in some occasions shortly after the Westminster and Parsons Green terrorist attacks (while the threat level was still critical)

Someone who's about to shoot up a casino isn't going to care if he buys his guns from the cartels on the border, probably cheaper that way too, without having to worry about any certificates, and taxes.

Well, the armed hotel security gaurd was close enough to hear the shooter drilling and screwing his security-cameras up right before he started shooting...

He just wasn't fast enough to the draw, got shot. Saved a life, though. And managed to radio exactly what room the shooter was in. Literal seconds before the massacre.

Long story short, the gunman was trying to barricade himself in the hotel like Mark Essex had about 44 years earilier... Essex took eleven hours of drawn out shooting from his hotel-perch... (also torched the hotel, shot about a dozen officers, and there were reports that he took hostages; there's your worst-case, ended with a USMC Sea Knight helicopter gun-crew mowing him down on the roof**)
