FIRST LIB DEM GAIN

They've taken one - just one - of their Tory target seats: Eastbourne.

But news just coming in that they've lost Harrogate.

This is rapidly looking like a night where the Lib Dems will maintain their share of the vote, and gain about the same number of seats as last time; which they would have taken back when the election was called - but which will seem like a crushing disappointment given the expectations even just 48 hours ago.

This election is starting to look up.

For the few, at least.

conservatives took another seat. So, can anyone explain how this works? Is it the majority seats win? So, are you guys voting on the parliament too, that definatly not like the US elections...oh god, its like 2:30 in the UK. Its 9:30 here :p

We do not vote directly for the PM. We vote in each constituency for an MP. The party with most MPs then forms the government, and their leader becomes the PM.

Current prediction: Cons 300.

This bodes well for electoral reform in future, and for limiting the danger of a Conservative government.

Labour seem to be keeping a lead of 10 seats at least at all times.

EDIT: I really have no idea how they predict this stuff.

Harrogate and some other northern LibDem dump has just swung from LibDems to Conservative, on a 9% swing. The seat was c.155 on the Tory target list.

I think we can more or less abandon both calculators and lists as predictions now. We've got holding seats way inside expected gains, and gains way outside of targets. Swings to the right of them, swings to the left of them, on charged the NSG 20 (or so)

My observation on election graphics:

I really think that the BBC graphics are quite awesome. Emily's interactive screen was rather atheistic by design (I love the curved text for the constituency). Curves and sounds gives great drama to the event.

How people can vote for such an useless party as Labour is completely beyond me. And how they managed a majority last time with just 35% is ridiculous.
