But are they gaining enough seats?

Probably not, which hopefully means the smug git will be removed as party leader soon.

Two birds with one stone...

Captain Smooth-face will go, and that shite Lembit Opik's gone.

That's a big, big Lib Dem loss as they've held the seat almost continuously since the 19th century, even when the old Liberal Party was at its 5 seat nadir, except for a brief period under Thatcher.

Perhaps the locals were just tired of Opik's extremely colourful profile.

Quite likely. Still, a big loss for the LibDems. I only hope Balls gets similar treatment.

It's a madness.

Crap, but I wish the LibDems had done better than the damned Tories.

looks like the conservatives are moving forward, keep in mind, I'm in the US, and I'm just watching the elections, its great because I have no emotional investment in this one! :) Personally, the Liberal Democratic Party seems interesting, I'll cheer for that one I guess.

Overall swing in England and Wales is on the 5.5% mark or so, so anything could still happen.

The election now scares me. If I have to stare at Camerons mug for the next 4 years, I might shoot myself.

I spent some considerable time working in Wales in the 90s. Montgomeryshire is a fairly conservative (with a small c) area with strong nonconformist traditions. Writing for the Daily Star and consorting with half of a Romanian Europop act that famously asked us to touch their bum were probably just a step to far for Opik's constituents.

But given the seat's history over the last 150 years, I fully agree that it's a massive LibDem loss.

Amazing. The Lib Dems could learn something from Alliance...
