I heard that when Ted Turner still headed up his many national broadcasting outlets out of his Atlanta headquarters, he sent the presenters to Ohio to learn how to speak like a Buckeye. Apparently they believed that those from Ohio had the least identifiable regional accent, and so it would sound the most "national".

Yeah, us Ohians are pretty much what a person would call accentless. But think of it as a Midwestern.

The bugger is entirely America-centered. Turns out I would sound somehow Hawaiian and New-Englander at the same time.

In Britain, I've been told that I sound like a Scot who's trying hard to speak RP.

I never heard such a word before. Diagonal is the only term I'm familiar with in English for such a situation.

I'd say "on the opposite corner" or "across". Then again, not a native speaker.

Across would be the street across. A bit ambiguous. Opposite corner would work.

Do people really say something is on the kitty corner when something is across from them on an intersection? Apparently according to the test Yonkers, Baltimore and New York are the closest to my northern British accent

no it means it is across diagnally. Example of use -
