I have good news: At the moment, Hurricane Jose is expected to stay in the Atlantic.

Current path has it heading the direction of Bermuda, but it may not make it.

Or just teleports it over Kansas and Nebraska.
You'd better believe I'm a bitter Bernie Sanders supporter. The Dems fucked up and fucked up hard. Hopefully they'll learn that neoliberalism and maintaining the status quo isn't the way to win this election or any other one. I doubt they will, though.

Trump's mere presence is driving Jose away from the mainland US...

Ok on a more serious note, I believe they've closed down one of the Miami-Atlanta Highways. I know a lot of friends who either live in Florida or have family/relatives/friends there. All colleges and schools have closed, while many out of state college students have evacuated the state and returned to their own home states.

Heck, in Georgia the hurricane is only going to be 30-60 miles per hour strength but colleges have been canceling a fair amount of events/activities. I hope Florida gets through this alright :(

I've got a lot of friends and family who live there. They'll be alright. They aren't the type to ignore evacuation warnings, and they understand how human life is more important than material belongings. Unlike the mental image most of the rest of America has of the average Floridian: namely, a "hold my beer" followed by acts of massive stupidity. It's those people that I worry about the most, especially any children that might be in their care.

Also, give aid to the island of Barbuda. Irma hit them hard. Ninety percent of this small islands structures and vehicles are destroyed, leaving some sixty percent of the islands small population (1,800) homeless. It's not a lot of people, but dangit, they are still people with houses gone and lives ruined and hearts that need hope. So go find a charitable organization that you trust and give what you can. And not just them, but the folks in Houston still shaking off the effects of Harvey and the folks in southern Mexico who just faced the strongest earthquake that country has seen in some 30 years and the countless monsoon victims on the Indian subcontinent.

Sorry if I got a little preachy there with that previous paragraph. I've got a tender heart when it comes to disaster victims, whether the disaster is an act-of-God, man-made, or personal.

It's true. Jose might make landfall in Bermuda but seems after that it won't make landfall anywhere.

But Jose can also suddenly change paths if something goes wrong so I'm not keeping my hopes up.

Why are hurricanes termed after stereotypical timid and shy female names or literally random as hell male names? Why not Bellatrix, Rosaline, Victoria or some other majestic feminine name? Why not hurricane Tyler, Tony, Karl or Mayweather (dat pun doe) why not some roughed up gangster type name for the males?

Hurricane names are determined by the World Meteorological Organization.
They choose six lists of male and female names and keep them in rotation every six years. That's why Hurricane Irma has the same name as Tropical Storm Irma in 1978.
If huge damages was caused by a hurricane, the name of that hurricane would be retired and replaced by another. Irma would probably be replaced since it would cause great damage to Florida.
If the list of names for that year has been used up, they will use names from the Greek numbers. Like, "Hurricane Alpha" or "Hurricane Gamma"

According to NOAA, Hurricane Jose would make landfall on the Northeastern Carribean Islands (Northern Leeward Islands and some others). If I'm not wrong, Puerto Rico would feel some winds but not so harshly. The Jose would move northwest then northeast, making landfall to Bermuda but no others

I refer you to today's editorial in Le Monde. Here's my translation of the opening paragraphs:

While the scale of meteorological disasters keeps on increasing, Donald Trump’s crusade against environmental regulations is a danger to the world.

Texas has not yet recovered from the catastrophic floods caused by hurricane Harvey and Florida is preparing to face Irma, the most powerful tropical cyclone ever formed in the Atlantic basin and which the Caribbean islands of Barbuda, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, almost entirely devastated, have already bitterly experienced. But while the effects of ongoing climate change -rising sea levels, the increasing intensity of rain, etc- make the USA’s east coast particularly vulnerable to extreme weather events, the new American administration remains deaf and blind to scientific evidence.

It is a matter of both irony and catastrophe: in Donald Trump, Americans have elected a climate change-denying President at the very moment when the effets of global warming are becoming a plague upon themselves. The ignorance, intellectual laziness or ideological and sectarian blindness of America’s head of state have consequences for the United States and contribute to the deterioration of the country’s image and leadership capacity abroad. It is a sad moment in American history.

I'm watching fox news now on YouTube because i live in the Netherlands. Hurricane Irma is now at category 5, at the coast of Cuba, very close to Miami. The hurricane will end in Atlanta they said. And Florida is preparing for the hurricane. The winds are 160 mph, and the gusts are 195 mph

Hey man it's better to be safe than sorry. Nobody - not even the weather reporters - know what path the hurricane will take so its nobody's fault really. $30 is a lot of money to spend on anything but at least if the hurricane was to come her way then she would have been ready for it. :)

I can just imagine Reppy being like...

Hurricane Irma, ** DEAT and 1 week ban from posting on the forums ** for trolling. You have racked up an enormous amount of hurricane warnings and evacuations in your short time here. You would do well to rethink your behaviour here if you wish to continue using this site.

...and everyone cheering. Until ex-Irma creates a new puppet called Katia while Jose joins shortly before Irma gets DEATed, gets banned and creates a new puppet called Lee after his first deletion.
