Here in the Dakotas during a Blizzard notices are put out that basically say "Do not go outside. If you get stuck, we are not coming to get you." Same applies elsewhere. Emergemcy services can only do so much, and at some point they have to just let people die of their own stupidity, as goi g to rescue them is two dead people inatead of one. May sound callous, but its the way it is.

It doesn't sound callous. These are people who are generally willing to risk their lives to save others, after all.

But you've got to make some concessions to reality, no matter how idealistic you are.

People are crazy to hunker down in the freaking Florida Keys.

Considering that the Keys have a maximum elevation of 25 feet above sea level (with .ost areas being far lower) amf the storm surge being 15- 25 feet high, I cannot say they are craxy. They are being blindingly stupid. The kegs will basically be under water.

It will only be ankle deep at the highest point on the island.

From the little information we're getting in here in the Netherlands there are reports that gangs on atleast Sint Maarten (and probably the French part of the island aswell) are plundering the few places that still got food and other vital recourses. No police on the street and current government presence is practically nihil save for about 20 soldiers we have currently stationed there, so anarchy has broken out...

... So practically I think both the Netherlands and France will be sending troops over in the upcoming hours or days.

I really hope my country will be sending all possible recourses we can send, even if we have to go into debt this year. Luckily Sint Eustatius and Saba have gotten through the ordeal without much damage.
