Just saw this on MSN

Me: I don't agree with this at all in desperate times like this with a cat 5 hurricane coming in I'd much rather be focused on saving lives then worrying about serving warrants or denying people entry to a shelter. Now what I think should happen allow entry into the shelter but keep the sexual offenders in a separate area of the he same shelter from women and children.

Anyways is this even legal for them to do this?

The guy is a fucking idiot. His response to people with warrants for minor infractions like speeding tickets and parking tickets (which make up the majority of people with warrants) is to first go to the jail to clear it up then go to the shelter. Which is gobsmackingly stupid, as you should be limiting your time outside during a hurricane.

To be frank, the whe "sexual predators" thing is a smoke screen, and not the reason he is doing this. He sees this as an easy way to force people to turn themselvds in for minor infractions during a fucking hurricane . Its a money saving/raising venture that is going to put people in danger, most of whom are not a threat to anybody.

Update: Just heard on the radio that we're under Hurricane watch. We're also starting evacuations in Barbuda today.

Florida evacuation news from various sources:

Evacuations underway in Miami-Dade include coastal and low-lying areas in "Zone A" (along the coast from Coral Gables to the Everglades, plus areas surrounding Biscayne Bay), barrier islands in "Zone B" (Key Biscayne and Miami Beach, northward to Golden Beach), and all mobile homes in the county.

In Monroe County, the Florida Keys have already been evacuated, but there are reports that a lot of people are hunkering down anyway, taking their chances.

Broward County's mandatory evacuation orders went into effect at noon today; areas include mobile homes county-wide and low-lying areas east of Federal Highway (US-1) including the barrier islands.

Palm Beach County has "highly recommended" voluntary evacuations for the barrier islands; evacs are not mandatory at this time.

Collier County has only issued a voluntary evacuation of Marco Island.

St. Lucie and Martin County: there's a mandatory evacuation in place on Hutchinson Island. No other word on any other evacuations.

Well, you still have Jose following in Irma's wake.

Jose is passing uncomfortably close to Barbuda. While last I saw it wasnt projected to touch down on the Island, there will atill be heavy winds and rains. And it could hypothetically unexpectedly dip to the South a small nit amd actually hit Barbuda.

You'd better believe I'm a bitter Bernie Sanders supporter. The Dems fucked up and fucked up hard. Hopefully they'll learn that neoliberalism and maintaining the status quo isn't the way to win this election or any other one. I doubt they will, though.

That's what we're worried about. It's why we're trying to evacuate the island as soon as possible. We really can't be hit again, seriously.

Keep the cats company at the Hemingway House? Swim to Dry Tortugas? Reenact this scene from True Lies? There's plenty to do in the Keys when no one else is around.

There is a lot of fake speculation going on at the moment on the internet. There are unsubstantiated rumours about Irma likely to hit Houston as Harvey did; some fake reports often come with convincing doctored graphics or borrowed footage from other disasters.

The only official forecasts for Atlantic hurricanes are from the National Hurricane Center. No one can give a plausible forecast for more than five days, because by that time the probabilities will be too wild to determine the likely path.

No, evacuation is mandatory for Key residents too.

Don't forget about headbanging in the middle of a hurricane like this guy did with Matthew.

Not now, but hopefully this fake news epidemic will subside soon before it gets worse (although some mainstream outlets should actually do their part to reduce the perception of being out of touch with the viewer).

Considering that the Keys have a maximum elevation of 25 feet above sea level (with .ost areas being far lower) amf the storm surge being 15- 25 feet high, I cannot say they are craxy. They are being blindingly stupid. The kegs will basically be under water.

I would call them insane and then they will call emergency services and expect first responders to come get them at the height of the storm

I suppose crazy and stupid are not mutually exclusive.

Here in the Dakotas during a Blizzard notices are put out that basically say "Do not go outside. If you get stuck, we are not coming to get you." Same applies elsewhere. Emergemcy services can only do so much, and at some point they have to just let people die of their own stupidity, as goi g to rescue them is two dead people inatead of one. May sound callous, but its the way it is.

Indeed. From my link above:

"If you stay here, the hospital will be closed," [Key West] Mayor Craig Cates said. "We'll have minimal amount of emergency service."

If the storm stays on this track, Key West will get soaked, but the wind damage shouldn't be too bad; further east, around Key Largo, I certainly wouldn't want to be stuck there.
